I will not say who died a mercenary, I would never dare. I consider myself a nation mourning the death of Lieutenant Alexander Roman, the last in a long line of casualties of the Italian war in Afghanistan.
Of course, this time, the rhetoric and hypocrisy have national superato ogni limite. Quella a cui apparteneva il ten. Romani è un'unità sotto copertura, cioè segreta, che agisce in missioni di guerra di cui si sa ancora meno del nulla che sappiamo circa le operazioni di guerra "regolari" .
Una guerra infinita, quella afghana.
Una guerra "sporca" come tutte le altre, dove è la popolazione civile a pagare il tributo più alto di vittime. Una guerra a cui con alta professionalità partecipiamo per decisione politica, chiamandola "missione di pace" perchè la Costituzione, altrimenti, ce la vieterebbe.
Diceva Gino Strada a proposito dell'ospedale di Lashkar-gah:
Quell'ospedale dà fastidio, perchè ti sbatte in faccia la verità about the war: that 40% of those who end up in the bombing were children. You slam in the face with the photos, the faces, the smiles or tears. On the other hand there is not even a journalist can document what's going on, was not admitted a single journalist in the operations. Even the basic rules there are skipped.
That each coffin wrapped in the flag back to sanctify is being used for "peaceful men killed on a mission of peace," is something to which every social conscience should rebel.
The truth is that these deaths, family and comrades aside, it does not matter to anyone.
